Our journey to create PIPESIDER began over a decade ago, at a time when the industry’s drive toward larger drilling rigs, longer bore distances, and heavier drill pipes emphasized the urgent need for a safer, controlled solution to making up and breaking out drill pipe connections on the Pipeside. Early manual methods were not only slow but also posed significant risks, often leading to injuries. Most HDD technology development at the time focused on the Rigside, leaving the Pipeside as a relatively neglected area—seen as less critical to technological advancement.
Driven by the imperative for safety and efficiency, we set out to create a solution. After extensive testing and numerous refinements, PIPESIDER was born—a robust breakout unit with an integrated pipe spinner that delivers precise torque control, breaking tough pipe connections without damaging threads, and maintaining a safe distance for operators. This advanced unit was initially developed for internal use by one of HDD contractor and became a trusted tool for complex onshore and offshore HDD operations at the MAXI and MEGA scale. Over the years, it has proven its reliability, durability, and value in demanding conditions.
Although PIPESIDER was not initially intended as a commercial product, interest from other contractors grew as its reputation spread. Time and again, it demonstrated its ability to enhance safety and efficiency in rigorous environments. Now, we are proud to introduce a refined, ready-for-market PIPESIDER, tailored to meet broader industry needs. Its name is no accident: it highlights the essential role of the Pipesider—the professional responsible for Pipeside operations—on the HDD site, a role that warrants greater attention and respect in the drilling process.

Our PIPESIDER is compatible with a range of diameters and types of drill pipes, accommodating both RANGE I and RANGE II length. The standard adjustable diameter range covers pipe ODs from 5” to 10”. Have a different drill pipes diameter? No problem—we can customize the spinner and breakout unit to meet your specific needs.
Threaded Casings
Yes, you read that right—PIPESIDER can also handle casing pipes. Imagine a Pipeside setup where there’s limited space to lay out a long steel pipeline, yet the length of the bore requires it. Installing long pipelines, even those with smaller diameters, shouldn’t involve time-consuming delays like welding additional sections. With PIPESIDER, you can drill and install casing pipes just as quickly and safely as if you were tightening drill pipe.
